Hi,

We have a client who wishes to upgrade from PeopleTools 7.57 to 7.63, so that they may use Windows XP on client machines.

The Oracle server is NT4, running Tuxedo server 6.5.

My question is this.... In the PeopleTools 7.63 release notes, Page 10, "Platform Support News", there is a note saying ...

"For Windows XP, the list of unsupported or uncertified third-party software is as follows: ... Tuxedo 6.5 (Server)."

Now, I know that no-one in their right mind would run XP as the server OS for anything, so to me, the fact that Tuxedo 6.5 server is not certified does not matter, but why do they mention it? Is there a potential issue with running XP as the client, and having Tux 6.5 on the server?

Any help or experience would be greatly appreciated.

I guess PeopleSoft is assuming that not everyone is in their right mind ... just covering all their bases?...

Yes, there are potential problems. PeopleSoft has not certified XP as a client OS for tools 7.63; so, it might work, it might not, but nobody from PS has checked in any case.

The doco I have from PeopleSoft clearly indicates that PT 7.63 DOES support XP.

Well, perhaps Tuxedo/server side don't handle XP.. but if you want to run the client tools (app designer, etc.), then those would run on XP fine?

I would suggest checking with GSC and clarifying and let us know!

Windows XP Pro is a certified client operating system for PT7.63 as outlined in Customer Connection:

For Tuxedo 6.5, it only concerns the application server machine, and not the client machines. So, it does not mean that using Win XP on the CLIENT machine will result in an unsupported environment...
